Shamrocks, Springtime, and Sales - March Event Calendar for Riverside Families

Looking for fun activities for your family in Riverside, California, in March 2026? Here are ideas for local community activities, library storytimes, events led by the Parks and Rec department, and more!

How to Use this Riverside March Calendar:

  • Putting this list together is a labor of love for me! I try my best to share accurate information, but always recommend you double check with the location hosting the event - look at their web site, social media, and/or give them a call before heading over! I generally try to link the host’s info in the listing, but you can also google Riverside + the name of the event and it’s likely to show up.

  • Do you have a family-friendly event in Riverside to add? Please submit your event here.

  • Are you looking for another month’s event guide? I’m hoping to offer one of these event guides for every month in 2026 (and beyond!) You will be able to access them all 12 months as they are published here.

Fun Activities for Families In and Around Riverside All Month Long

Here are a few activities I wanted to draw special attention to, or that you could do all month long!

  • Enjoy Spring Break

  • Celebrate Easter - even though Easter isn’t technically until April 5, there are quite a few Easter events already happening in the last few weeks of March. Stay tuned for a post from me with ideas for celebrating Easter!

  • Look for wildflowers on a hike! By March, sometimes wildflowers are cropping up around Riverside! Thanks to cooler temperatures and green hills, March is one of the best months for hiking around Riverside (as long as it’s not raining!) Check out some family-friendly Riverside hiking trails here.

  • Go to a Consignment Sale - all three of Riverside’s big annual/semi-annual consignment sales are happening this month! I remember when I was pregnant with my first child, a friend told me about this idea of “kids' consignment sales” and it was a foreign concept… then I shopped at one, and realized how brilliant it is! It’s a win-win-win for everyone: as a customer, I get clothes, shoes, toys, and more for my family at a discounted price than buying new, and I can also do a lot of shopping all in one day. Meanwhile moms who sell items get to declutter their homes and earn a little extra money. All of us get to feel good about shopping local and helping the environment by buying used items. This month, there are three going on:

    • Grove MomCo Consignment Sale

    • Moo La La Boutique

    • Savvy Chic

    • When my kids were tiny, I would push them in a stroller and shop as long as they lasted! As they’ve gotten older, I usually give them a budget (somewhere between $25-50) and let them choose their own clothing items - it’s a fun way of teaching budgeting skills without spending too much money!

    • I will say, I sold items as a consigner once - and only once, lol. It was a ton of work to find hangers and safety pins and prepare my items (I remember staying up till 3am one night with a newborn baby to finish it all in time!) and I didn’t end up earning very much in return. But I do know some moms who love selling - I’d definitely get a tagging gun like this to make it easier!

  • Have fun at the park! March is also a great month for going to the park, since temperatures are cooler than summer and it can be a quick visit after school before it gets too dark.

  • Go to Joshua Tree National Park - one of the wonderful things about living in Riverside is we have a national park just about an hour away! February can be a great time to visit, with cooler temperatures than summertime making it bearable to spend the day here!

Kid-Friendly Activities in Riverside, California, Day by Day

Here is a round up of events and activities happening all month long (this list goes chronologically from March 1-31… keep scrolling for events later in the month!)

Sunday, March 1, 2026

  • 1:00-4:00pm First Sundays in Downtown Riverside This event happens every month (with different activities every time!) It includes free admission to the Cheech and Riverside Art Museum, along with family-friendly activities at the downtown Main Library, and more! February activities:

  • 12:30-4:00pm Family Fun Day at UCR Arts in downtown Riverside. Celebrate 30 years o UCR Gluck Fellows: “Free and open to the public, there will be something for all ages to enjoy! Experience Taiko drumming, dance from India, and other music and dance workshops led by Gluck Fellows. Participate in multiple artmaking activities and take a peek at special photography collection objects. Enjoy food, community, and art to celebrate 30 years of Gluck at UC Riverside!” You can Reserve Free Tickets and see their full schedule of events.

  • 12pm Free Storytime at Barnes and Noble at the Galleria at Tyler Mall (every Sunday at 12pm). Meet at the stage in the kids’ department for a story and activity. This week’s book is Sunny and Stormy. I grew up going to Borders or Barnes and Noble almost every weekend with my book-loving mom (we would buy a snack from the cafe and then just find a stack of books and flip through them all afternoon) o this sounds like a great Sunday activity to me :) There’s a farmer’s market nearby on Sundays in the parking lot at the mall that you could visit too.

  • 3:00pm Sunday Movie Matinee at La Sierra Library

  • 3pm Chess Club at Hunter Hobby Park, for all ages

  • 7:30am March Magic 5k, 10k, 15k, and Half Marathon at Ryan Bonamino Park - if your family enjoys running, this seems like a pretty chill event on an open course, strollers welcome. Cost starts at $27.

  • 8am - 2pm UCR Botanic Gardens is usually only open two weekend days a month, and the first Sunday of the month is one of them, with a few special activities thrown in too. Admission to the gardens is free, but parking is $2-6 depending on how long you stay. Explore the gardens from 8am to 2pm, and join in on these special activities:

Monday, March 2, 2026

  • In the wee hours of Monday night/Tuesday morning, if the skies are clear, there will be a total lunar eclipse visible from Riverside (and all of Southern California). The timing is not conducive to viewing with kids - it starts just after midnight on Tuesday morning and the total eclipse will fall from 3am-4am on Tuesday morning, March 3. But, I wanted to mention in case you have kids obsessed with space, or if perhaps you’re up in the middle of the night rocking a baby or helping a sick kid, you could pop out and see it! (lunar eclipses can be viewed without any special eye protection).

If you have an older child or teen interested in music, this could be an opportunity for them to see a beautiful choir! My family attended one of these last year and it was lovely - I brought markers and sketchpads for my 8 year old boys to quietly color during the concert, which helped hold their attention. (My attitude at events like these where I’m not sure how kid-friendly it will be, is that if it’s free and local, it’s relatively easy to leave early if it ends being miserable for them, but we may as well try it out!)

  • 12pm Free Storytime at Barnes and Noble at the Galleria at Tyler Mall (every Sunday at 12pm). Meet at the stage in the kids’ department for a story and activity. This week’s book is Kitty Caterpillar.

It’s just happening this weekend. I like being able to shop used clothing (great for my budget and the environment!) and support other local families with my purchase!

  • 7pm The Magic Flute at CBU Opera Theatre If you’ve ever wanted to introduce your older children or teens to opera, this could be a cool opportunity - it’s free and local! My understanding is that the show is performed in German (based on this video from a 2020-era performance). You can see one of their other performances here, but I think The Magic Flute is being done in a smaller room on campus so I’m not sure if it will be as elaborate as the one shown in the video. I almost didn’t include this event because I’m not sure it’s a great fit for everyone (especially those with little ones), but if you have a musical child who might like a unique experience, it could be worth a try!
