Where to Go Trick or Treating in Riverside, California - A Local Family Guide
Last updated: October 2026
Trick or treating in Riverside can be so fun for kids! I’m personally a fan of making sure we try to trick-or-treat in our own neighborhood if we can… it’s a chance to connect with neighbors and be a part of our own little community.
Sometimes, though, your neighborhood may be small, unsafe for trick-or-treaters (due to no sidewalks, etc.), or just doesn’t have a lot of people participate! If you’re looking for good places to head to for trick or treating on October 31 in Riverside, California, here are some of the neighborhoods worth visiting this Halloween!

I marked neighborhoods with an orange dot and events/trunk or treats with an orange star.

I had fun looking through our family’s past costumes to find some pictures for this post! We usually keep costumes fun but really simple using things we have around the house or at a consignment sale if possible. We did the Wizard of Oz this year as a family - here’s a member of the Lollipop Guild, plus we had the Wicked Witch, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow… and I was the Yellow Brick Road!
Tips for Trick or Treating in Riverside:
Bring a flashlight and glow sticks or something to make your child visible as they cross the street.
Eat something ahead of time so your kids aren’t just surviving on candy all night. (I always struggle with this one in the hubbub of getting costumes ready to go!) If you’re looking for an easy option, Chipotle has $6 entrees for anyone in costume!
Consider taking costume pictures earlier in the week when you can get good lighting and you’re not in a rush. I just printed out photos from all of our past years of costumes and put them on display in frames on our fireplace - it’s so fun to see those memories!
Drive extra slowly and carefully as you get to-and-from Trick or Treating, as so many little ones are crossing the street!
Bring water - my kids always get so thirsty running from house to house!
I guess we come by the homemade costumes naturally… this is from when I was a little girl! Hahaha.
Best Neighborhoods for Trick-or-Treating in Riverside
Here are some Riverside neighborhoods worth visiting for Trick or Treating - these are all marked on the free map I put together.
The Wood Streets. If you ask local moms, this is likely the number one recommendation you’ll get! “The Wood Streets” is an officially designated Riverside neighborhood, located between Riverside Plaza (where Trader Joe’s is) and Downtown Riverside. The neighborhood gets its moniker from the street names - Brentwood, Elmwood, Beechwood, etc. This area gets VERY busy on Halloween, and for good reason - houses are decorated and you’ll see lots of other trick-or-treaters. I think some families like the crowded vibe so they can see a lot of costumes and feel very festive, but if you don’t like crowds, I’d choose a different area of Riverside or arrive early (like 5ish) if possible.
Orangecrest is a very family-friendly part of Riverside, and Halloween here can be lots of fun (though crowded!) Head towards Orange Terrace Library/Community Center (to my knowledge, there are no events happening AT the center that night, but the surrounding neighborhoods will have plenty of trick-or-treaters). Or, head to the area near Kennedy Elementary School for another nearby option, or one parent mentioned Golden Rain Road as a fun spot!
A note on Orange Terrace area - in the past, there was a very elaborate light display at a local house… unfortunately, they have stopped doing the show. Just FYI so you don’t go looking for it!
Victoria Woods. This is a nice area of Riverside off Alessandro near Poly High School (up the hill from Trader Joe’s/Riverside Plaza). The area by Alcott Elementary comes well recommended, along with Glenhaven/Fairview area. Two churches that are right across the street from each other - Immanuel Lutheran and Church on the Hill - always have fun Trunk-or-Treats on Halloween night, so you can stop by there and then head out into the neighborhoods.
La Sierra - there are lots of homes in the La Sierra area (near the Riverside/Corona border) that could be fun for trick-or-treating. Someone mentioned the area around La Sierra High School as being particularly fun.
Mission Grove neighborhood. Mission Grove is the area around Alessandro/Trautwein (by Sprouts). This is a bigger neighborhood without one specific spot to aim for, but in general, this can be a fun, relatively low-key area for trick-or-treating. Be aware there are some hills!
Country Club Drive in Canyon Crest. When I asked for suggestions, this street was brought up several times for nice trick-or-treating! Nearby, you could also try the area by Canyon Crest Dr. and Via Vista.
Woodcrest near Krameria and Wood. This area is known for having lots of families and a festive atmosphere, with nice houses. Despite the similarity in names, this is a totally different area than “the Wood Streets,” fyi! A few other cross-streets mentioned were Newbridge/Krameria, Barton/Krameria, and by MLK High School.
The “Cowboy Streets” between Poly High School and Target (on Arlington). A Riverside mom mentioned that this one usually has a great turnout but isn’t overly crowded like the Wood Streets or Orange Terrace.
Downtown Riverside, especially the neighborhoods between 9th and 12th Street. Aim for the streets between Brockton and Redwood, towards Mt. Rubidoux.
Neighborhoods around Ramona High School, around Jefferson and Garfield.
What is your favorite neighborhood for trick-or-treating? Send me a DM or a message so I can add it to the list!
I had fun looking through our family’s past costumes to find some pictures for this post! Here’s Luna Lovegood, Harry Potter, Hermione, and a werewolf (no spoilers here on his actual identity!)
Trunk or Treats and Kid-Friendly Halloween Events on October 31 in Riverside
Trunk or treat events are a great alternative or addition to traditional trick or treating! Here are a few happening on October 31 specifically:
Sandals Church Hunter Park is having their annual “Candy Rush” from 6-8pm on Halloween.
Immanuel Lutheran Church on Alessandro (up the hill from Poly High and Riverside Plaza/Trader Joe’s) has an annual Trunk or Treat from 5-7pm on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Their flyer says they’ll have food trucks to purchase food from, in case you don’t get a chance to eat dinner beforehand. Directly across the street is Church on the Hill.
Church on the Hill on Alessandro (up the hill from Poly High and Riverside Plaza/Trader Joe’s) has an annual Trunk or Treat, usually from 6-8pm. They usually have very festive themed trunks. It’s right across from Immanuel - we’ve done both before, back to back.
Ghoul’s Night Out at Bryant Park - the City of Riverside Parks and Rec hosts this annual event on October 31 from 4-7pm at Bryant Park in the Arlanza area. It’s free and open to all ages, with carnival games, snacks, inflatables, and special trick or treat stations (some booths may charge a small fee for activities).
I had fun looking through our family’s past costumes to find some pictures for this post! A couple years ago, the kids were all World Landmarks, haha. Here’s Big Ben - we also had the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Statue of Liberty, and the Lincoln Memorial!
Frequently Asked Questions About Trick or Treating in Riverside
What time should we go trick or treating in Riverside?
There is no specific trick or treat time in Riverside (did you know some community’s schedule specific hours??) I wouldn’t start earlier than 5pm. Most neighborhoods are active 5:30-8:30pm. Personally, having someone come to my door after 9pm or so would seem really late (though we’d still give out candy, of course!)
What day does trick or treating happen in Riverside?
It’s always on October 31! There will be plenty of festivals and events earlier in the month, but the door-to-door visits always happen on October 31. (I guess some communities around the country choose a different day??)
Are there trick or treat events in Riverside besides going door to door?
Yes! I listed a few October 31 events above, plus there are lots more all month long listed on the October Riverside event calendar.
I had fun looking through our family’s past costumes to find some pictures for this post! This was probably my favorite year - we made their jellyfish costumes out of a bowl and plastic tablecloths from Dollar Tree!
